Webhooks: Monitoring Messages and Group Chats

What This Feature Does

Webhook IM's lets your Premium bot forward its instant messages and group chat activity to an outside service, like Discord, in real time. Instead of logging into Second Life to check in on your bot, you can sit back and watch the messages roll into a Discord channel instead.

This is useful if you run a store bot, since it lets creators provide customer service, monitor chats, and reply to IMs without needing to be online in-world.

Note: Webhook IM's is only available on Premium bots. If you do not see this option on your bot's control panel, your bot may need to be upgraded.

Where to Find It

  1. Log into your MoonBots dashboard and open your bot's control panel.
  2. Look for the "Webhook IM's" button in the panel menu.
  3. Click it to open the Webhook IM's window.

Setting Up Your Instant Message Webhook

The top section of the Webhook IM's window is for your bot's instant messages, meaning private messages sent to your bot by individual residents.

  1. Paste your Discord webhook URL into the "Instant Message Webhook URL" field.
  2. Click "Save IM Webhook" to turn it on.

If you want to stop forwarding instant messages, clear the field and save it again. Leaving the field blank disables this.

Setting Up Group Chat Webhooks

The bottom section lets you forward chat from one or more Second Life groups your bot belongs to. You can set up a separate webhook for each group, so different group chats can be sent to different Discord channels if you like.

  1. Use the dropdown menu to select the group whose chat you want to monitor.
  2. Paste the Discord webhook URL for that group into the "Group Webhook URL" field.
  3. Click "Add Webhook" to save it.
  4. Repeat for any other groups you want to monitor.

Note: Your bot must already be a member of a group before that group will appear in the dropdown.

Getting a Discord Webhook URL

If you have not created a Discord webhook before, here is how to get one:

  1. In Discord, go to the server and channel where you want the messages to appear.
  2. Open Channel Settings, then go to Integrations.
  3. Click "Create Webhook" (or "New Webhook").
  4. Give it a name, then click "Copy Webhook URL."
  5. Paste that URL into MoonBots as described above.

Note: Keep your webhook URL private. Anyone who has it can send messages to your Discord channel.

Closing the Window

Once you are finished setting up your webhooks, click "Close Window" to return to your bot's control panel.
